Coach James – The Thailand Promise

rethinking the family farm

I am working an idea to help new friends on the other side of the world. My journey started in 2015 when the airfare to Thailand was less than a trip to Florida. My Thai friends in the USA helped design my initial adventure – since then I have met many wonderful people. Thais are so friendly. Each go far beyond my thoughts for helping me explore their country

Isaan – the northeast region of Thailand has it all. This is where I fell in love with everything Thailand. I met Su, Sam and listened to her story. It was compelling. We needed to save her farm from the European multinational conglomerate. This 4th generational family farm needed help – I took this project to save families and farmland that will provide for many future generations. This provides great purpose for my current circumstances and a great purpose for any to help.

The Family Farm re-imagined From Drilling wells for irrigation, digging pools for recreation, fish and water reserves, modernizing the everyday tools: tractors, trucks, electric generators, was just the start of a life’s dream project.

The Thai Family Farm was Dry and Barron from the 5 year drought. We needed irrigation systems, we needed new crop rotation, we needed to get nutrients back into the soil. We needed electric power, we needed reserve pools, we needed shade from the blistering sun, we needed irrigation systems that could cover 90 acres of land. We needed to create new revenue streams. First we drew the plans. We executed the plan.

Keeping the Family Farm securely in the hands that has tilled the land for 40 years demands hard work and a committed work force, and Kuhn James Foundation

The Devastating Flood of 2020

In 2020 – the strangest year ever – the River overflowed from torrential rains in Nakhon Ratchasima and Buriram that flooded the farm in Lamplaimat. Wreaking havoc on our crops and losing farm and grazing lands. We were able to drain and save 70% of the rice crop, but many neighbors lost everything. We were able to drain water from the farm into our pools. After ten years of sever drought, the initial rain water was welcomed – then came the flood.

Thailand Discovered – Living past the flood we look forward to rebuilding and creating a great life on the Family Farm

The final plan is to have a healthy green farm, with shady huts for relaxation and meditation, along side fresh pools for swimming and another for fishing. We plan to open other lands for development of recreation. Other spaces for cooking, socializing and family fun. Once the Thai government expands their electric lines to include our farm, we will finally realize our dream . . . I am hoping you can help us attain our dream by donating: your time here in Thailand, donating material such as seeds, shovels, hoes, 2″ water hoses, sprinklers, pvc, electric generators (3800w) and other irrigation products and or funds*
